Competition Update! Important!!!

Journal Entry: Mon Jul 14, 2008, 8:38 PM

The Journal

Just read through and make note of some important changes:
'Design A Logo For DAFAC'

As some, many, or all of you may know DAFAC will be having merchandise. Of course, all funds will go towards organizations such as WSPA or the SPCA. We are a NON-PROFIT organization. We're all volunteers, and will be getting no money from these products.
Before we can get all the merchandise organized, we need a logo. This is where you all come in. We have some ideas, but it would be better if we see what the public wants. Right?
So, some rules perhaps?

1. The logo has to contain an animal, or animals. IF you have only one animal, try and make it as unidentifiable as possible. We don't want to look like we favourite any animal over another.
2. The logo must contain Dare To Act. Period included.
3. You must be aware of a couple things. We do not want copy right issues, you must be willing to hand the logo over to us completely. We will give you credit, don't worry. But we do not want legal actions taken against us if you see your logo walking down the street on someone's shirt.
4. Don't let all that copy right hoopla scare you away. And even though this is for a very serious cause, don't be scared to have some fun and experiment with different ideas. You can submit as many entries as you'd like.
5. All entries must be in by September 1st 12:00pm UTC time. That should give all of you lots of time. Polls and judging should be all over by September 15th.

That's it for now. You will all be alerted of any updates.

You have way too much time to get your entry in. xP So we hope to see some good ones!

I'd like to give a major thanks to =Mahado07 for the subscription!!!

The site should be up and running soon. Cross your fingers!

Submission rules, joining rules and the like are posted in the shoutboard. Please stop asking to join, anyone can join, just give us a watch.

Thank you.

Featured Animal

Hey, Autumn here!
Once a week, we will feature a different endangered animal, and give tips on how you can help them survive.

This weeks featured animal is the Crested Shelduck.

The Crested Shelduck is a classified as extremely endangered, if not extinct, due to unconfirmed sightings. If there are still any left, they can be found in eastern Asia.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to note me! Just make sure that in the subject box, you write 'Autumn'.

Events

Check this site out if you live in the UK, they hold many events. [link]

*If there are any anti animal abuse events happening anywhere, that you know of, please alert us so we can add them to the least. Events can include anything, protests, rallies, get togethers, or even days, such as World Ocean Day. If there are no events happening on those days in your town, try and get people interested and maybe have your school, commmunity, town or city put something together. Don't be scared to speak up.*

Try and find petitions from organizations such as WSPA and ILPH. Yes, sometimes we will have shitty-get-you-no-where-petitions, but that can't be helped. There's only so many good petitions out there.*

The name of the site has been decided. 'Dare To Act'. We will be on a hosted site, until we can afford to buy one, which will hopefully be soon coming. Thank you for your patience over the past couple weeks. I know our activity has been lacking, but we should be back on track soon.

Hard Hitting Stories

Amarina reports:
The story I want to talk about today is actually too long for my little section here, but I will sum it up as best as possible to highlight the sheer cruely of Vickie Rene Kittles, aka Susan Dietrich. She was convicted for 42 accounts of animal abuse in February 1995 after five weeks of trial and months of delay, and years of suffering for her animal victims. She has a history of animal abuse, and is very likely to simply continue her dreadful cycle when she has completed her pathetic 7 month sentence in Oregon. Out of all her offenses, the most sickening has to be the 115 dogs, 4 cats and 2 roosters that were kept on a school bus she had bought, crammed in and caked with urine and feces. The stench was so bad that officials had to use gas masks. Kittles declared to 'love' the animals and in court even boasted that she had not let the dogs off the bus for weeks, to protect them from fleas. The dogs, however, were suffering from almost every other parasite, including hookworm, whipworm and at least 16 cases of the deadly heartworm. While in court she threatened to sue anyone who touched her 'beloved' dogs. Despite her so called love for these animals she FORBID the state from giving medical treatment to any of them. I could go on for pages about how she manipulated the courts, mistreated countless animals and even assaulted people, but even if I did it would still not highlight the sheer torture these animals went through in her care. While she was screeching at the officials who found her and her bus, she held in her arms a dog that was continuously convulsing. The dog could not be saved when it was taken from her grasp, but the autopsy showed that there was NO traces of food in its body and NO body fat on it at all, a sign of prolonged and painful starvation. People like Kittles should be locked up for good, but because of her manipulation and weakness of the courts she would soon be free to torture animals once again.

The Alabama sturgeon is classified as one of many criticaly endangered species. Don't forget about the competition folks. ^_^

I would like to introduce my new co-admin, Fallen. I’ve been on the look-out for awhile, and now I’ve finally found the perfect person. Yay.

She’ll pretty much be helping me with everything, from merchandise, to the site that’ll be coming out within the next few months, to competitions, basically, you name, she’ll be helping.

As well, I would like to apologise for the lack of consistency in the journals. It would seem we’ll have to do the journals on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. Thanks for your patience. Heh.

Amarina reports:
Ruth Carlisle took in her friend's dog, a labrador called Snuggles, after her friend's other dogs were removed by her relatives. All fair and good, that is until the woman locked the dog up in a bedroom for three weeks until it starved to death. Why did she do this? She was "too knackered" to care for it, a court heard. She left it food and water, yes, but only enough to last it for one week. An RSPCA officer found Snuggles' emaciated corpse swarming with fleas, and frantic claw marks on the bedroom door. It must have been a torturous hell for that dog locked in there, with no food and water and no way out. It brings a tear to the eye to think of that poor animal desperately trying to escape from its prison. What is even more horrific is that the woman only received 60 hours community service and made to pay a £250 fine. She should be locked up in a cell for what she did to that helpless pet.

Competitions

Our first competition. Excited? I hope so.

'Design A Logo For DAFAC'

As some, many, or all of you may know DAFAC will be having merchandise. Of course, all funds will go towards organizations such as WSPA or the SPCA. We are a NON-PROFIT organzation.

We don't want to look like we fav any animal over another.
2. The logo must contain AFAC. Which stands for 'Artists Fighting Animal Cruelty'.
3. In a contradictory statement... You must make two versions, one that says AFAC, and one that says OPAAC. Which stands for 'Ordinary People Against Animal Cruelty'.
4. You must be aware of a couple things. We do not want copy right issues, you must be willing to hand the logo over to us completely. We will give you credit, don't worry. But we do not want legal actions taken against us if you see your logo walking down the street on someone's shirt. To prevent copy right issues, we will ask you to sign a document and mail it to us, or scan it onto the computer and just e-mail it to us. OR you can, if you are willing to put the time in, join the crew. I wouldn't think you would sue us then. I should hope not anyway. We'd probably still ask for a signed document saying you give it over to us completely with no strings attached. Once again, you will get credit! Do not worry about that.
5. Don't let all that copy right hoopla scare you away. And even though this is for a very serious cause, don't be scared to have some fun and experiment with different ideas. You can submit as many entries as you'd like.
6. All entries must be in by June 29th 12:00pm UTC time. That should give all of you lots of time. Polls and judging should be all over by July 10th.

That's it for now. You will all be alerted of any updates.

Pet... Smart?

Journal Entry: Thu May 15, 2008, 6:45 PM
  • Mood: Anguish
The Journal

Now, I've seen some sick things. Animals tortured and maimed, starvation, fur being ripped from skin.

I'm not saying the things I saw tonight are worse, nor am I saying they're not as bad, but... The images on one site in particular really got to me. I don't know why. But I could barely stand to look through them all. It was heart breaking, heart wrenching, and it makes me wonder what has happened to the human race over the years to make them able to commit such acts of hanous porportions.

[link]

I wish I could go into more detail, but I don't think I can handle it at the moment. Please take a look at the sight, and do everything you can to thwart your local Pet Smart's. Lets run them to the ground, show them animal cruelty is never okay.

Hard Hitting Stories

Amarina reports:
When you lose a job, you might get angry, but when Sean Bushell-Clarke, not afraid to name who it was, lost his job he went home to his four month old husky-labrador cross and killed it. He admitted to punching the puppy ten times before plunging a carving knife into its back. He put the dead puppy, named Benji, into a bin bag and buried it in a shallow grave in his back garden. A neighbour alerted the RSPCA who removed the body. A vet said the dog died from a single stab wound. This behaviour is unacceptable, and I personally believe that the punishment Bushell-Clarke received is extremely lax - a five year ban from keeping animals. His ban should be for life and he should pay for what he did to that innocent puppy - just because he was angry. "This was a shocking and wanton act of cruelty, carried out mercilessly and without provocation. This man showed complete disregard for the life he was taking, or the suffering he caused in doing so" said RSPCA inspector, Jonathan Brooks. I think it can be safely said that this is an horrific example of animal abuse.

Featured Animal

Hey, Autumn here!
Once a week, we will feature a different endangered animal, and give tips on how you can help them survive.

This weeks featured animal is the African Elephant.

The African elephant is categorized as endangered due to the fact that its population has been reduced by up to 50% over the last three generations. Though hunting this gentle giant is now forbiden, poaching for their ivory tusks still exists.
