And We Have A Winner

Journal Entry: Sat Sep 20, 2008, 7:55 AM
  • Mood: Joy
The Journal

Several important things to announce, so if you read any of our journals, this is the one to read.

Firstly.
Congratulations to ~ilzetjie! We have already talked to her, but a public pat on the back was called for.
As well, I would like to thank the other two for entering, even if you didn't win, your entries made this a competition. There will be more competitions coming up, so keep an eye open for this.

I also need to inform you that the site has been moved to a new server, which you can find here: [link]

As you may or may not have noticed, the site has a FAQ page... With nothing on it!
So, what we're asking is for questions which we will then answer and transfer to the FAQ page. Your help is greatly appreciated, and no question is too pointless (okay, maybe some are) or too stupid!

And onto the last, I think, matter of great importance. Sometime next year, Fallen will be going to a Animal Rights convention. Hopefully, if all goes according to plan she will be setting up a booth for DTA. Now, information is grand, but if we could make some money while we're there, that would be grand too. So what we're asking, is if you guys would allow us to sell your art there. Of course, we would give credit where credit is due. This is a non-profit organization, meaning we won't be taking any of the money, nor will those who allow us to sell their art be getting a cut.

I suppose I might as well throw this out there now while we're on the subject...
As Dare To Act. grows and becomes more time consuming, in the years to come those of us who work on it, the admins, may have to start taking a cut. Now, this is not for certain! It's only if DTA starts cutting into eight hour chunks of our day. That's not likely to happen anytime soon.

Oh, wait, one more thing. If anyone knows of any Animal Rights petitions, events, or conventions, please let us know. Or do some searching around. That would be great.

Submission rules, joining rules and the like are posted in the shoutboard. Please stop asking to join, anyone can join, just give us a watch.

Thank you for reading.

News Stories

The question that drags at us all. Is it cruelty, or sportsmanship? [link]
It's important to ask the right questions. [link]
Help sponsor the domestic rabbit. Man bungees a 1,000 feet to raise money. [link]
SPCA and CYF work together in New Zealand to tackle abuse. [link]
Animal abuse registry could be exactly what we're looking for. [link]

*If you know of any other news stories that should be mentioned above, let us know. Please realise that we try and mention news from all over the world, but it's sometimes hard to track down recent stories. As well, we can not mention every story. If you are interested in animal abuse in the news, please check out google news and search animal abuse or cruelty. [link] [link]
All commments, opinions, and arguements are welcome. We don't bite.*

Hard Hitting Stories

Amarina reports:
"BUNNY IS SLAIN BY GIRL YOB - Pals film drunk attack"
I have to say when I saw this title in the paper I was shocked. I read on and was horrfied even more by the opening paragraph that read "A girl of 14 swung a rabbit by its ears and hurled it against a wall - as her pals filmed the sickening attack on a mobile phone". It truly did make me feel sick as I read that the girl slammed the rabbit, called Fi-Fi, against a house FOUR TIMES with the final fatal blow being caught on camera. It took an agonising 12 hours for the poor rabbit to die from massive head injuries. The young thug and her cronies passed on the horrific footage to other friends' phones. The 30-second clip was played to magistrates who could clearly hear a thud as the black-and-white rabbit's head hit the wall of the house. Even worse, a 17-year-old youth was meant to be baby-sitting at the house when the girl arrived wit her friends and downed three litres of Lambrini and two glasses of Baileys liqueur. A boy is heard sniggering on the film and a voice says: "Flat out, as hard as you have done it yet!, just before the girl swings the rabbit and then lets go. She admitted causing unnecessary suffering and was gien a ten-month referral order at court. The youth who was baby-sitting admitted to abetting the girl, he faces being locked up. The Chairman of the bench said: "If you're capable of doing this to animals, what else are you capable of?"

Featured Animal

Hey, Autumn here!
Once a week, we will feature a different endangered animal, and give tips on how you can help them survive.

This weeks featured animal is the Giant Panda.

Surviving with only fragmented populations of about 250 mature adults, the giant panda is classified as critically endangered. This gentle giant lives in Asia, where their diet consists of bamboo.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to note me! Just make sure that in the subject box, you write 'Autumn'.

Events

Check this site out if you live in the UK, they hold many events. [link]

*If there are any anti animal abuse events happening anywhere, that you know of, please alert us so we can add them to the least. Events can include anything, protests, rallies, get togethers, or even days, such as World Ocean Day. If there are no events happening on those days in your town, try and get people interested and maybe have your school, commmunity, town or city put something together. Don't be scared to speak up.*

Petitions

Help PETA put an end to Iams and it's cruelty. [link]
Help horses, sign an online petition to try and get rid of cruelty to horses. [link]
Help stop KFC's reign of terror over the chickens. [link]
Wearing real fur is wrong, help stop the cruel slaughter of animals for something that is rightly theirs! [link]

*Any good petitions you can show us are welcome. We prefer they be as legit as possible, and not some internet crap that won't ever do anything. Try and find petitions from organizations such as WSPA and ILPH. Yes, sometimes we will have shitty-get-you-no-where-petitions, but that can't be helped. There's only so many good petitions out there.*

Competitions

Not current competition.

I wouldn't mind my artwork being sold, especially if it's for a good cause; though I don't know who'd want to buy my stuff anyway XD

I'll get working on some stuff that you can sell~♫

Aye, we'll have to figure something out with digital artists, but we'll let you know when the time comes.

Thank you for offering!

No problem! Once you figure out what you want to do with it, I will get what you need. I have different photos and digital arts that I wouldn't mind at all letting you sell for the organization. :nod: Of course I don't guarantee that they will sell well ^^; I've never really sold any of my artwork for charity or for profit ^^;

Thank you so much!!

I'm working on a couple drawings right now - neither really DAFAC-related, but if I get them done in time, you are again, welcome to sell those as well. Unless of course you are trying to keep the artwork DAFAC-related, in which case I could do a little editing on one of them.
